Dog Training

We just got back from Angus’ puppy lessons at Petsmart. He is really picking up stuff. I know I probably could have taught him this stuff on my own, but it is somehow easier with a structured class every week. I put the following notice on our refrigerator:
—————————–
ANGLISH
Or, How to talk to Angus

POTTY-go potty
KENNEL-go to your kennel
FOCUS-look at me
OFF-get off whatever you are on
SIT-sit down
STAY-don’t move
DOWN-lie down
WAIT-stay in your current position (kind of like STAY)
QUIET-stop barking
LEAVE IT-stay away from whatever you are looking at
TAKE IT-ok to go near what you are looking at
DROP-let go of whatever you are holding in your mouth
COME-come to me
————————————–

He gets all the commands, it’s just a matter of whether he wants to do them or not. I have to keep training him until he gets to the point that he does what I say without question or delay. Now if only they made doggy treats for kids 😉

Now it’s off to Nathan’s last basketball practice. Phew! I don’t really care for basketball, but I guess it’s good to expose my kids to different sports. Football and baseball are pretty much the only ones I will watch, more football than baseball. I am thinking about taking my family to a few Indianapolis Indians games this summer. Should be fun.
