>Dentist

>

I had to go to the dentist yesterday. What is it about the dentist that strikes fear in the hearts of the most courageous people? At my last checkup, I was informed that the cavity that I had filled a few years ago (on one of my two front teeth) was no good and needed to be replaced. If it had been the same dentist (I switched a year ago), I would have said, “Well, I guess you’ll be doing this for free, right?”

She gave me the xylocaine (or whatever they are using these days) shot right in my gums above my 2 top front teeth, and soon my entire nose and upper lip were numb. The dentist drilled and then said, “Ok, now Susie (or whatever her name was) will fill your tooth.” Then Susie went to work. She said, “Ok, you’re done. I’m going to get the doctor to check my work (not a direct quote, but this was the impression I got).” The dentist came in, looked at my tooth, picked at the filling, flossed my tooth, and then started to drill again. Nothing was said, but I would bet that Susie’s work wasn’t up to snuff.

So 30 minutes after the initial shot, 2 drillings, some vigorous flossing and much sanding, I was done. When the dentist pronounced it good, I said, “Good thing. I was afraid you were going to whip out a belt sander pretty soon!” She laughed, chucked me on the shoulder, and left.

Man, do I hate going to the dentist.

>Three coats of Primer (on Commenting)

>

If anyone wants to comment on something I write here, there are basically three ways to do it:

I. Leave a comment using notepad:

1. Open up some word processing program on your computer (notepad works great).

2. Type your reply or comment to my post.

3. Click on “0 Comments” (or whatever number) to go to the comment screen.

4. Cut and paste your comment from notepad (or whatever program you used) into the “Leave Your Comment” box.

This avoids the dreaded “lost post” where someone (it has happened to me as well on this and other websites) types a long, well-thought-out post (more than a paragraph), and the website does something crazy.

II. Leave a comment on the website using the clipboard: You can also type your message directly in the “Leave Your Comment” box, and stop every paragraph to hit CTRL-A, and then CTRL-C (to save your post in clipboard memory). If it kills your post, then all you have to do is retype from the last save point (not as gut-wrenching). It’s up to you.

III. Email me. This one works especially well if you don’t want anyone else to see your comment (or if you just can’t be bothered with I or II). My e-mail address is at the left

<——-over there.

Another tip: you don’t have to sign in or anything (unless and until I get mega-famous for my mad blogging skills and I get weirdos leaving me messages, then I may institute required sign-ins to keep out the riff-raff). For the foreseeable future, you can select “Name” and type your name in. If you select “Anonymous” make sure you sign your post so I know who you are! (unless you really do want to be anonymous).

>McCain thinks he’s still our leader

>

(CARTOON BY MICHAEL RAMIREZ)

Can I just say that I never liked McCain as a Republican candidate in the first place (see here). I voted for him, but he was the worst candidate on the field (except for maybe Ron Paul) with an R by his name. You take the most liberal Republican and run him against a liberal Democrat, and what do you get? A liberal democrat President and a liberal Republican Senator supporting said Democrat.

I found it interesting that in this article McCain did the following: Told his fellow Republicans to tone down the rhetoric against illegal immigration. To quote the article, “McCain told colleagues their poor image among Hispanics, which he attributed to bitter intra-party squabbles over immigration reform, dealt his campaign a devastating blow.” He says that he thinks the reason he lost is that he didn’t reach out enough to Hispanics. It couldn’t be, say, the fact that McCain isn’t a conservative, or the fact that he has consistently supported initiatives that wreck our country and invite these illegals into the country. Naaah.

Also, the article states, “McCain also unveiled a new political action committee, Country First, a grassroots organization that borrows from his campaign slogan and promises to “strengthen our party [and] better define our Republican ideals and message.” Ok, first of all Senator McCain, YOU LOST! This doesn’t give you the right to define our Republican ideals. I lump you with all of those Republicans who, after this past election, said that we didn’t win because we were “too conservative.”

It is time for new leadership, conservative leadership, dare I say it, Republican leadership in the Republican party. I am tired of Democrats shoving their agenda down our throats when they are in power, and then demanding that we be “bipartisan” (read: do what the Democrats want to do) when the Republicans are in power. I say let’s end this bipartisan nonsense, and push for passage of laws that are good for this country, whether Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi think they are good or not. There is a culture war taking place in this country, and the Pelosi bunch are the enemy. That is all.
