My Space

Somebody at work talked me into making a “myspace” page several months ago. I never use the thing, as it seems to be mostly a tool for single people to flirt, and talk to their online friends. After about six months, the only “friends” I have on my myspace page are members of my extended family, and some co-workers.

I think I’m gonna cancel it. just delete the whole thing. Plus, I’m sick of the women wearing skimpy clothing that appear on my computer every time I want to sign in to my page. There’s gotta be something better out there. So, goodbye, My Space. Now it can be Somebody Else’s Space, because I don’t need it.

Sick

When I started working here at the hospital, I got sick just about every six weeks for about eight months. I haven’t been really sick since then (the last time was last April, 2006). I think it was my body getting used to the “working nights” thing. Also, in June I started working a more solid schedule. What does this mean? Now I work three or four nights in a row, then three or four nights in a row off. My first eight months here, I would work one night on, then two off, two on and three off, then two on, one off, one on, etc…there was no continuity. I think that messed with my body, and lowered my immune system.

Why do I bring this up now? I think I am coming down with something. I am sitting here at work with chills, general malaise (that achy feeling all over), a nagging cough every now and then, and a tickle in my throat. This all spells “sick” to me. It makes me wonder if I will be coming to work tomorrow. Not particularly good timing, since I had a job interview on Monday. I don’t think I’ll take the job if they offer it, but I’m still up in the air. My current job stinks at times, but not bad enough to where I MUST get out. In other words, I don’t think it would be any better at another hospital. I don’t know, it might. I guess if the new place offers to pay me more than my current job, I would consider it, but if they offer me the same (or less) money as what I am making now, it wouldn’t be worth the hassle to switch. I’d have to learn all over again about their systems, policies and procedures, staff, etc.

Ah well. We will just have to see what happens. I hear an IV pump beeping. Need to go tell that lady to unbend her arm. Stinking antecubitals.

Dog Training

We just got back from Angus’ puppy lessons at Petsmart. He is really picking up stuff. I know I probably could have taught him this stuff on my own, but it is somehow easier with a structured class every week. I put the following notice on our refrigerator:
—————————–
ANGLISH
Or, How to talk to Angus

POTTY-go potty
KENNEL-go to your kennel
FOCUS-look at me
OFF-get off whatever you are on
SIT-sit down
STAY-don’t move
DOWN-lie down
WAIT-stay in your current position (kind of like STAY)
QUIET-stop barking
LEAVE IT-stay away from whatever you are looking at
TAKE IT-ok to go near what you are looking at
DROP-let go of whatever you are holding in your mouth
COME-come to me
————————————–

He gets all the commands, it’s just a matter of whether he wants to do them or not. I have to keep training him until he gets to the point that he does what I say without question or delay. Now if only they made doggy treats for kids πŸ˜‰

Now it’s off to Nathan’s last basketball practice. Phew! I don’t really care for basketball, but I guess it’s good to expose my kids to different sports. Football and baseball are pretty much the only ones I will watch, more football than baseball. I am thinking about taking my family to a few Indianapolis Indians games this summer. Should be fun.

Snow!

We got about 12 inches of snow on Monday and Tuesday of this week. It took forever for the plows to arrive. Evidently, there was some kind of communication problem between the City of Noblesville, and our property management company. The property mgmt company is responsible for plowing the cul-de-sacs and “courts” (roads leading to cul-de sacs). The city is responsible for plowing all of the “through” roads.

The snow stopped falling around 5 or 6am on Wednesday. I shoveled my sidewalks and driveway in the morning. This took a few hours. Then I went back inside and waited for the plows to show up and clear a path for us to get out. After several hours of waiting, I started to wonder if they would ever come. I was supposed to go to work on Wednesday night, but the 2 feet of snow was too much for my car to navigate. Eventually I had to call in and tell the charge nurse that I couldn’t come.

Next morning I woke up to find that sometime between midnight and 7am they plowed our cul-de-sac (which is Frog for “dead end”). but the rest of the roads were still pretty bad. Evidently what happened is that the City plows never showed up for some reason (we still don’t know), and the property management people were waiting for the city to plow the roads so they could come in and do the cul de sacs. Eventually the property mgmt folks just came in and plowed the whole thing themselves.

So I am kind of frustrated about the whole thing. In Iowa, they never got it perfect, but the plows were out while the snow was still falling, and your street got plowed within hours of the storm’s end. Here in Indianapolis, they are used to a lot less snow (and less often).

Now it is snowing again, here on Saturday morning. It is supposed to last until about 7pm (when my shift starts), and we are supposed to get another 2-4 inches. I drove home through the first inch this morning, and some idiot cut me off.

I think that this shows that idiots abound in this area, and the most dangerous part of the drive is not the snow, but the morons around you. This accident happened on a road that I drive on every time I go to work. Everybody stay safe this winter!
