NFL 2008
Interesting dates and facts for the 2008 NFL season:
1. March: I find out sometime this month if I am going to get the Colts season tickets I requested.
2. April 9th-ish: 2008 schedule announced.
3. April 26th and 27th: The 2008 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York City
4. July : Colts training camp starts.
5. August 3rd: Pre-season Hall of Fame game involving Colts vs Redskins in Canton, OH
6. September 4th: Regular Season Opener
The Colts 2008 home game opponents: Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, and Houston Texans.
The Colts 2008 away game opponents: Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, San Diego Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, and Houston Texans.
I think it’s interesting that the Colts seem to play the Patriots every year, even though they aren’t in the same division. I understand the reason for it (they end up around the same level every year), but it’s just interesting. Factoid for the day: Peyton Manning has faced the Patriots 16 times in his 10 years in the NFL. There was only one year that the Colts and Pats didn’t play: 2002.
Peyton’s record against the Patriots: 5 wins 11 losses (31.25%)
Peyton’s record against the Brady-led Patriots: 3-7 (30%)
Peyton’s record against the Patriots in the past three years: 3-1 (75%)
How will we fare this year? Time will tell.

My Church
So I was looking back through my blog entries, and I realized that I have never put in anything about my church. We are members of Trinity Baptist Church in Westfield, IN. When we moved to Indianapolis in July of 2005 we started looking for a church. We found an independent Baptist church in north central Indianapolis called Colonial Hills Baptist Church. It has Majesty Hymns, conservative music, solid, biblical preaching, and friendly people.
The problem was that it had 800 or so friendly people. That was a little more than what we were used to (you know, kind of overwhelming). We tried several other churches in our area, but none of them were right for us for one reason or another (contemporary music, not bible based, unfriendly people, etc). One church had about seventy people, and not one child. Seriously! The youngest person in the church the day we were there was probably me (other than my kids). The church was right next door to a cemetery, and I think they did that to ease the transition.
By now it was time to enroll our two eldest kids in school, and we decided to send them to Colonial Christian School (same building as the aforementioned church). While there, they asked us if we had found a church yet. I told them that we really liked Colonial, except for the fact that we weren’t comfortable with it’s size. They said, “Why don’t you go to Trintiy Baptist Church in Westfield? It was a church plant of Colonial, and it’s just like us, except smaller.”
We went there the next Sunday, and the rest is history. Kim and I now minister in the choir, small group ensemble, and other musical things. Kim helps in the nursery, fills in for children’s church or children’s Sunday school, etc. I teach adult Sunday school off and on (the pastor likes to rotate teachers in and out), and teach the kids on Wednesday night every couple of months. We really enjoy going there, and the people are friendly. I taught Sunday school this past quarter on the books of Judges and Ruth.
It was nice being back in front of people again. It was nice teaching from God’s Word again.

Lunar Eclipse
Well, the lunar eclipse has started. Just so you know, it is a full moon tonight. I will be taking pictures throughout, but this picture was taken at 9:20pm EDT. NASA says that the moon will probably turn orange or red, given current atmospheric conditions. Stay tuned!

Sprint, meet Spike
Sprint ticked me off yesterday. I have waited to write about it so I would have time to calm down. Here are the facts of the case:
Last August, I signed up for Sprint TV on my cell phone. I used it two or three times at the most.
Then I forgot about it. In January, I took a good look at my Sprint bill and realized that I had been paying $9.99 per month for this service that I never use. I also noticed that in December I was charged for an audio subscription to MLB.com (so I could listen to Cubs games on my phone…during Baseball season this was a great thing, but the Cubs didn’t play any games in November or December). I called Sprint customer service on January 16th, and requested that these things be cancelled. The lady that I spoke to said she would cancel them and credit me for the charges. Great! I left that phone call very satisfied.
Fast forward to this month. I get my Sprint bill, and I notice that the $9.99 charge is still on my bill. I called Sprint yesterday, and asked them to cancel this service again, and credit me for the $9.99 since I had requested that it be cancelled last month. The woman I spoke with said she would cancel it, but she wouldn’t give me the $9.99 back, since she “couldn’t see anything in the previous person’s note” that showed I requested the service cancelled. Since the person didn’t say anything on 01/16, they wouldn’t give me the credit.
I asked to speak to a supervisor, and he told me the same thing. He said, “We can only go by the note that she wrote in January. She didn’t say anything about cancelling the service, so we can’t give you credit.” I asked him, “Why would she give me credit for it unless I wanted it to be cancelled in the first place? Can you use common sense here.” He said that they cannot use common sense, only the previous notes.
I was irate at this point. I asked if he had a supervisor, and he said that no, he doesn’t. I told him that it was hard to believe that I had gotten the president of the company on the second try. He said he wasn’t the president of the company, but he was the last person I would be talking to about this. It is cancelled now. I said, “How do I know that? The person in January told me it was cancelled. I took her at her word, and now here we are.” He told me he would send me an e-mail stating that he had cancelled it. So I guess it’s cancelled. But I am still out $9.99. Grrr. I know it’s not much, but when you have to work OT to make ends meet, every little bit counts.
No, I’m not going to sue anybody over this, but I can now understand (a little) why some people in my family are litigious-happy. “It’s the principle of the thing,” has fueled many a feud.
Right now? Color me ticked.
